Federal authorities have officially joined a legal challenge initiated by California Republicans, aiming to prevent the California's newly approved electoral boundaries.
This court case, submitted to a US district court, challenges the map championed by the state's Democratic governor, which was created in response to a GOP redistricting effort in Texas.
"The state's redistricting scheme constitutes a brazen power grab that tramples on voting rights and mocks the democratic process," declared the nation's top law enforcement official.
Democrats have expressed confidence that the redistricting plan will withstand court challenges.
"These opponents lost at the ballot box and soon they will also lose in court," commented a spokesperson for Governor Newsom.
